Recently the Poseidon Cruise PERGAMOM: “Proxy Education and Research cruise off GAlicia, MOrocco and Mauritania” has been carried out within the scope of the international Graduate College EUROPROX. The cruise consisted of three legs where research activities concentrated on collecting material that allows the development, testing and improvement of “proxy parameters” and “proxy methods” in marine research that will allow the accurate reconstruction of paleoceanographic, paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental conditions from marine archives. Leg P366-1 was carried out from 3 to 19 May 2008 and focused on the region south of the Canary Islands; the Moroccan and Mauretanian shelf. Leg P366-2 (22 May – 30 May) covered the region between the Canary Islands and the Iberian Peninsula whereas activities of Leg P366-3 (2 – 18 june) concentrated on the Galician shelf (Figure 1 and 2). The sample and data material that has been collected during these cruises form the basis of a consideral part of the research activities that will be carried out in the third phase of the EUROPROX program.
